All About Lawrence Paul

Hi, I’m Lawrence, the boss!!

I accidentally stumbled into hairdressing at the age of 15 when I realised I could get a Saturday job with outrageous hair ….. I was a punk rocker at the time and was a drummer for a local band. My Saturday job was working for an Italian barber, Toni, who really influenced me in deciding on a career in hairdressing. I began a 5 year apprenticeship (yes, it was 5 years in those days!). After a year, I was invited to join the best salon in the town, and it was here that I started to acquire unisex hairdressing skills. I was really in my element. The punk explosion had a radical effect on people and everybody wanted something individual to them. I soon found I was building a reputation in the area for creating individual styles by experimenting with colours and different cutting techniques. Ah, the good old days!!

One of my hairdressing idols was the great Vidal Sassoon. I regularly went up to the Academy in London whilst I was training to observe the new trends they were setting, and I found their concept of cutting hair amazing. As a result, after finishing my apprenticeship and working in a few local salons, I decided to work in West London and was lucky enough to work at Vidal Sassoon for a number of years. This had a great influence on my hairdressing and, to this day, most of my work has a Sassoon bias to it.

In the early 90’s my partner Paula and I opened our first salon in Essex and we continued to open further salons including achieving another dream of mine, to own a salon in Kings Road, Chelsea. After working 24/7 for quite a long time, burn out took over and we decided to opt for a quieter life in Norfolk, ostensibly to retire from hairdressing; but word spread about us, and we were repeatedly asked to open a high quality salon outside Norwich. I also had trouble finding somebody to cut my own hair!!! We opened our first salon in Long Stratton in September 2002 and in September 2009 opened our salon in Bury St Edmunds.

I am sure that the success of our salons can be put down to the fact that I am passionate about the industry and insist on consistently high standards from our teams, from junior up to senior level. We have some great people working for us, and I feel that we offer the best treatments and customer service in hairdressing and beauty therapy in the area. This has been enhanced by our partnership with Sassoon and we offer Sassoon colours, treatments and homecare to the most discerning of our clients. Being one of only a few salons in the UK to enjoy this exclusive relationship, we are honoured to be linked with such a fantastic name.
